Dear Eagle Family and Friends,
My name is Nakia Harrington Hester, and I am honored to participate in the 2022 -2023 Ms. North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Alumni contest, representing the Durham Chapter. This fundraising effort will help raise scholarship funds for the NCCU National Alumni Association Scholarship Program. The renewable scholarships are provided to full-time students enrolled in NCCU as long as the recipients maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
As a native of Durham, North Carolina, I entered NCCU in 1993. My commitment to the University is steeped in legacy. I am a third generation of my family to matriculate the sloping hills and verdant greens of our Dear Ole NCCU. As an undergraduate of NCCU, I embraced multiple opportunities to show my love for my university, including being a Student Ambassador, Student Resident Assistant and a member of the Junior Varsity Cheering squad. I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics in 1999.
When Dr. James E. Shepard selected the Eagle as our mascot, he noted that "The Eagle Is No Common, Ordinary Barnyard Fowl." As Soaring Eagles, our mission is to prepare students to become global leaders and practitioners who transform communities. To do so, we must ensure students have the financial resources.
As a Soaring Eagle and an active member of the Durham Chapter of the NCCU Alumni Association. I am committed to supporting the fundraising efforts for deserving students. In Truth and Service, I am asking you to please make a tax-deductible contribution in support of students maintaining enrollment at NCCU and earning their undergraduate degrees.
Your generous donations can be made by September 24, 2022. It is IMPERATIVE to note Nakia H. Hester / Durham Chapter on the memo line or comments section of your check or money order to ensure proper credit is given.
The Durham Chapter and I THANK YOU in advance for your support in this scholarship fundraiser.
In Truth and Service,
Nakia H. Hester
